After doing extensive research on organic farming and on organic certification, we decided to partner with a local California company that works on the ground with farms in Africa. These are small, family-owned farms that are ethical and use zero pesticides or herbicides. These farms are not involved in the organic certification process as it is expensive, and they don’t have the finances, resources, or incentive to maneuver through it. Additionally, representatives from a variety of food based companies and organizations have all stated that because monitoring is difficult, certifying a food as organic does not necessarily mean that it is indeed organic. For these reasons, we made the decision to purchase our cashews from these family-owned farms, and know that we are getting good healthy nuts, free of pesticides and chemicals, from a reliable, ethical, and trustworthy source.
